2008 Toronto NAIOP REX Awards
Welcome

The NAIOP Real Estate Excellence Awards (aka the REX Awards) were launched by the Greater Toronto Chapter of the National Association of Office and Industrial Properties (NAIOP) in October, 2001. Now in their seventh year, the REX Awards are the most prestigious standards of achievement within the office and industrial real estate industry in Greater Toronto.

The awards grew out of the success of NAIOP’s annual Recognition Luncheon, which was held annually between 1995 and 2000. This Luncheon regularly attracted 400 guests in honour of industry leaders like Joe Barnicke (1995), the Honourable Hazel McCallion (1996), Don Love (1997), Ed and Louis Odette (1998), Bill Moore and Evan White (1999), and Gordon Arnell (2000).

In 2001, NAIOP’s Board of Directors decided to expand the awards program and to replace the luncheon with an evening gala. The REX Awards Gala combines an Oscars’ style awards show, unique sponsorship opportunities and a charity fundraiser into a special evening of networking, celebration and community-building.

The REX Awards consists of six team awards and three individual awards.

The team awards are: Industrial Development of the Year, Office Development of the Year, Industrial Lease of the Year, Office Lease of the Year, Investment Deal of the Year and Green Award of the Year. Entries submitted for consideration in each of these categories are judged and voted on by independent experts in a balloting process administered by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.  Recipients are announced at the Gala.

The REX Awards include two individual honourary awards for Lifetime Achievement and Community Service.  The recipients of these awards are selected by a panel of NAIOP Directors and Chapter Past Presidents.

In 2007 we introduced the Developing Leaders Award which is given to members 35 years and under, who have distinguished themselves in their profession and show great promise as future leaders of the commercial real estate industry.
